IAPA NSW is pleased to extend an invitation to our next chapter meeting where Daniel Collins will be presenting on his work using optimisation in Ausgrid.
About the Presentation
Electricity Network businesses earn revenue based on the transport of electricity. While there are numerous analytics opportunities in the data-rich world of utilities, many of them include the relationship between electrical load and temperature. The presentation covers a number of analytical research, product development and financial management projects stemming from this all important relationship.
As well as regression, analytical approaches used include a monte carlo simulation (ie. repeated cycles of the monte carlo method to examine the distributions of a range of alternative functions).
Daniel Collins is Manager - Strategic Analysis in Ausgrid's Network Regulation and Pricing branch. His role includes the analysis of issues/opportunities of strategic importance to the Network, typically involving statistical analysis of large datasets. Daniel has worked in a number of roles in the energy industry since 1993, in Australia, the USA and Japan, and is qualified in Electrical Engineering. His professional interests centre on the application of innovative technologies to solve industry challenges.
His recent work includes establishing a customer and meter data analytics system, and the design and testing of special tariffs where customers can respond to dynamic price signals. The benefits of such tariffs include the ability to defer capital expenses associated with Network and Generation, and as a wholesale risk management tool for Retailers.
